Subject: Custom Header on Monobook Template to Integrate in Existing Website
Hello,

I really like the look and feel of the monobook template and the dokuwiki engine seems versatile.  Here is my issue.  I have a website http://www.paddlingabc.com and would like to incorporate a wiki to handle the river guide portion of the website.  It is a website about whitewater paddling.  So I tried to incorporate Dokuwiki into it and ran into some issues.  Iframes dont work because they dont resize and it looks bad.  I decided to then create a template that matched my website.

So basically using the monobook template I would like there to be a header and menu that matches up with my websites.  I have been playing around with the screen.css file as well as main.php and keep running into huge problems.  In particular the tabs at the top dont stay put.  I am open to moving to a new template if necessary but I would basically like to keep the look and feel of my site while adding in a wiki to handle the river guide portion.  I basically want to be able to add in my html/php header on top of the monobook template while making the monobook template 900px wide and centered.  You can see my trial and error work on http://www.paddlingabc.com/wiki/doku/doku.php.

My initial thoughts were to just sandwhich the entire wiki in its on <div>   this didnt work as  the tabs on top do weird things and dont seem to follow the <div>.  Ths simplest solution for me would be if I could get the whole wiki in a <div> and then add my custom html header on top.  Not sure if this is possible.

Basically I need to get the include hook from the default template for 'topheader' into the monobook template.

I would also like to remove the logo and move the navigation box up to the top so that it is inline with the tabs on top of the articles.  This I can figure out in time but a pointer to the right file to edit would be helpful.

Thanks for the help.

First rating: This should be possible at all. I can really imagine that you ran into trouble with the tabs using your sandwich cause most of the containers are floating... and therefore it may not that easy to get something displayed at the top followed by the tabs without some CSS skills ;-). Adiditionally, MediaWiki's monobook styles are not intuitive at all - and monobook for DokuWiki is using them.

this didnt work as  the tabs on top do weird things and dont seem to follow the <div>.
This is not "weird" - It is CSS (wich is not as easy as most people think when it gets into positioning and floating... and knowing the cascase - the first C in CSS.).

I may help you some day with your problem... what is your timeframe for realization? Cause I don't have any time the next 7 days...

Solved!.  I sswitched to another template that worked out the way I wanted to with divs and whatnot.  It is all done.  Just some trial and error in css and php.  See the results at http://www.paddlingabc.com
