Subject: Shortcut Icon Not Working
Hi all,

I've recently installed DokuWiki and have been very impressed thus far.  All of the important features seem to be there and everything is very simple and configurable.

However, I have a persistent problem with displaying a shortcut icon (i.e. the icon next to the page title in browser tabs and beside the URL in the address bar).  When I first installed DW, there was no icon.  A colleague has installed DW that also doesn't display the shortcut icon.  I've changed templates to monobook, and still there is no icon.  There is an icon at the /lib/tpl/monobook/usr/ location.  The HTML of the wiki pages even correctly points to the proper icon:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/group/dahlia_genetics/cgi-bin/dahlia_wiki/lib/tpl/monobook/user/favicon.ico" />

but it won't display.  I realize it's a minor point, but I want this wiki to look professional, and I don't think you can have a professional-looking web page without those icons.  Those white, dog-eared pages are so pedestrian.

Here's the addy for the wiki:

http://www.stanford.edu/group/dahlia_genetics/cgi-bin/dahl…

Thanks for your help!

This does not seem to be the correct path or the correct image. At least, if I try to open the image, it does not show up: See http://www.stanford.edu/group/dahlia_genetics/cgi-bin/dahl…

Thanks for your prompt reply, ach!

Yeah, I've noticed that, too.  What I meant was that the wiki source at least *points* to the right picture, but my browser (Firefox) can neither see it nor display it as an icon.  I can, however, download the picture using SSH, and it comes through uncorrupted.

I know this may be above and beyond the call of duty for a forum like this, but does this sound like a server-side issue?  Could there be some permission or property attached to the file that the WWW server refuses to deal with but that all other agents can deal with?  The favicon already has 755 permissions.

Thanks!

Subject: [SOLVED] Shortcut Icon Not Working
Hi all.  I seem to have solved the problem, and it *is* a server side issue.

If you're dealing with an external entity that hosts your wiki and provides CGI support, make sure that they allow files with the .ICO extension to be returned as regular images and not scripts.  Evidently it is a common practice for the CGI settings of servers dealing with multiple, independent cgi-bin folders to treat everything as a script, with a small list of file types that are returned as is.  Make sure ".ICO" is on that list, and your icons should show up if you're having the same problem I was.
