Subject: Discussion plugin - no discussion until after page edit
Hello,

I am new to dokuwiki and am pretty pleased with it so far.  I am trying to set up a wiki where members of a buyers club can share opinions on products offered to the club.  I've created, by exporting from a spreadsheet and then sed-ing and cut-ing, a .txt file for every product offered, with information about the product.  I copied those files into the correct data/ folders.

What I want to do is to allow the club members to share their opinions through the discussion plugin.  Through the Admin screen, I've disallowed discussion of every page (no need for discussion of navigation pages), but have included the "~~DISCUSSION~~" tag at the beginning of each .txt file when I created it with my sed-ing and cut-ing.

The problem is that, when one goes to the product page, the discussion area is not shown although the rest of the page is.  If, however, one edits the page and makes any change, even just adding a space so as to make the page change, the discussion area is shown once the page is re-saved.

How can I force dokuwiki to realize that there is a "~~DISCUSSION~~" tag present in the .txt fiile without having to manually edit and save every page through the wiki?  I've tried deleting the cache and the metadata, and deleted and re-installed the plugin, without effect.

I'm using the version of dokuwiki which comes with Debian/Lenny, 20080505, and the most recent version of the discussion plugin.

Many thanks in advance for any help,

Michael

Hello again,

I was able to solve this myself by creating a matching .comments file in the meta/ directory for each page via shell script trickery.  While this seems to have worked, I would still like to hear if there is a better way of doing it.

Thanks again,

Michael
