I already saw that page, thanks.
I only need a backup of my data files of course and any modified files I have (e.g. theme for example).
So that's no issue, and anyway, backup on my system (this system) is already taken care of.
In fact, well it doesn't matter because Dokuwiki is so small, but separation actually makes backup easier in a certain sense. What doesn't become easier is restoring everything in one go, or moving it to some thumb drive or similar in one go.
Also the Debian system is annoying because of required root privileges, which is why it is actually a bit more friendly to have it sit in /usr/local/ and be owned by the staff group.
Root owned stuff doesn't go well with a small wiki such as Dokuwiki, which is much more personal.
So I am happy to move away from a package which also makes it easier to hack the code if I needed to.
Then upgrade up to the latest distribution using the package manager.
Afraid to admit that there is indeed a newer version... but it's in "testing", not in the newer stable (there is no Stretch package).
The version in Testing advances by 2 years...
Maybe I can assume this upgrade will go alright...
The critical areas are the inc and lib folders.
Right, thanks for that info. But lib only contains themes, and inc is only program code. I don't really need to "upgrade" program code, I can just replace it.
Of particular concern is probably:
- the data/meta and data/media_meta
- data/index
- data/cache can probably be cleared
Nothing else really matters.
So we have:
- data/meta
- data/media_meta
- data/index
- lib/tpl
- lib/plugins
That is of most concern.
