What: I’d like Dokuwiki to be able to read and save files as .md as well as .txt, with the same file contents.
Why: Interoperability that would blow my mind!
More Detail: I’ve been using Dokuwiki since 2005ish in large part because of its interoperability. It's trivial, especially with the Markdowku plug-in, to take the contents of Dokuwiki page/file and drop it somewhere else that accepts markdown, like my journal software and corporate wikis that I use. I also have a local copy of my wiki pages and often do offline editing in my text editors and just sync it up without having to fuss with a database. Living the dream <3 !
Recently, I've started using some software (Obsidian) that can also run on a directory of simple text files. Obsidian would make an amazing interface for writing and editing my wiki, but Dokuwiki takes only .txt and Obsidian takes only .md . I was able to open my Dokuwiki pages directory tree in Obsidian, but Obsidian can’t see any of the files unless I switch them all to .md, at which point Dokuwiki won't see them.
I looked at the MarkdownExtra plug-in since it allows .md files, but that's not only unmaintained but requires files to be .md.txt
to be read by Dokuwiki, and to be 100% markdown internally. This will break the useful [[internal link syntax]]
that Dokuwiki and Obsidian share. I have posted the interoperability request over in Obsidian's forums because I think that they should also accept .txt files for their goals. However, it seems like Dokuwiki is so close to this feature already that I'm asking here as well.
Meta: Is this a plugin wishlist request? A feature request? I'm not sure how best to tag it.
