Hello,
I'd like to move few (small-to-medium) web sites from the current setup (Texpattern CMS, Hugo ssg) to something else and the best option which I've found so far was Tiki, but then I've stumbled (again) upon DokuWiki, so would like to get some input whether it could serve my purpose well...
I've tried several static-site-generators (SSG) in the past and I like their simplicity when it comes to creating content (offline) as well as flexibility in choises when it comes to theming and/or using different CSS frameworks. However, the work to plumb the missing parts (search engine, comments, forms etc.) is bringing too much overhead for my taste.
Tiki CMS does many things, lot of features, all the 'plugins' are integrated and shipped with the core, but some components do not work as expected and since I prefer writing content offline using some (standardized) markup, Tiki's workflow is not idea...I'd write content offline in e.g. markdown, copy&paste it into edit area (or using ghost-text in browser), but if/when using images or some other media in the page, it's quite complex, since Tiki's File-Galleries are quite disconnected from the filesystem. Moreover, it seems that using/customizing Bootstrap is the only viable option when it comes to theming. In the past I also tried Grav which is nice flat-file CMS, with good core, but unmaintained plugins are pain...
Now, I've installed latest Dokuwiki yesterday and did quite some reading/research about the required features, but, still, have some questions although Dokuwiki's workflow to enable one to write content offline (is Vim the best editor option?) using native syntax or possibly markdown plugin and ability to e.g. rsync my offline folder structure to mimic the same structure on the server (as I learnt yesterday in IRC) is great and very natural for me making it big 'pro' for Dokuwiki.
Here are my questions:
- Tiki makes distinction between Articles & Blogs, but I believe one can do them both via blogs, just wonder whether it+s possible to have several blogs under single Dokuwiki installation when using Blog plugin?
- Is it possible to create multi-level menu structure with the Menu plugin like in "classical" CMS-es?
- Is it possible to style different parts of the web site differently by using different templates per page?
- Anything which is missing in Dokuwiki (here I do not think about missing feature like forums etc.) to prevent one to create web sites similar to ones designed with e.g. Grav/Tiki/WP etc.?
Sincerely,
Gour
