markdown vs native wiki syntax

Hello,
since DokuWiki enables one to write content offline and then sync it to "production" server, I wonder whether it is advisable to use markdown markup (via plugin) instead of native wiki syntax considering that there is better support for writing markdown in so many editors?

It is important to remember that not all markdown is the same. Your idea only makes sense if the editor supports the same markdown syntax as the plugin. Or at least for the formatting you want to use. Otherwise you would have to adapt the plugin to the editor (or if possible, vice versa).

Well, I am thinking about Markdown Extra which has good support. Otoh, I'm also open to use native syntax, but wonder if Vim is the best option for DokuWiki's wiki syntax?

I like @cziehr's idea of installing a DokuWiki as a kind of editor on the offline system. DokuWiki is the best editor for DokuWiki's native syntax and DokuWiki's (plugin) markdown syntax.

yes, the sync-plugin also works in the latest release.

I personally recommend using Greebo anyway, especially for newcomers. But there are different opinions about that in this forum.

Pandoc can convert from Markdown to Dokuwiki syntax. Ive used it a few times and found it does 90%, there is sometimes some cleanup required but this may work for you. With sublime text you can write a build system that automatically converts a .MD file to Dokuwiki syntax.
