Hi guys -- still figuring out DokuWiki admin stuff, but I'm wondering your thoughts on URL rewriting as described in https://www.dokuwiki.org/rewrite -- other than for beauty, is there any real advantage to using URL rewriting to beautify the URLs?
That help page indicates that the default URLs are considered "ugly" but it seems to be that there is an advantage to them in that they require the least server config, they keep things the most simple, and they give you the maximum portability if you have to migrate to different server environments quickly in the future -- i.e. you could spin up alternate environments and restore your data and be up and running more quickly.
In other words, why not stick with the "ugly" URLs since you have fewer headaches later on? I mean, I get that if you have a lot of end users who have to type in URLs, the "pretty" URLs are easier to look at and type. But otherwise, what else am I missing?
