I know this is a huge long shot because it relates to a very old version of docuwiki, but perhaps someone can help.
I have been happily running Release 2013-05-10a (Weatherwax) since, well, 2013, and now find myself needing to upgrade to the current version. As suggested, I am doing incremental upgrades and the first step is to upgrade to Release 2013-12-08 (Binky). The install is on a Debian system running php 5.4.45 on Apache 2.2.22.
The upgrade was mostly a success in that I am able to view and edit existing pages, upload and view new media, change and save the configuration, and add/remove/edit users. But there is one big issue, when I try to create a new page there is no "create this page" button and, thus, there is no way to create new pages.
When I try to create a new page I am presented with the familiar "This topic does not exist yet" heading and text saying, "If permissions allow, you may create it by clicking on 'Create this page'." That suggests that this could be a permissions problem, but it's hard to imagine how when I can do literally everything but create a new page. Apache runs as user www-data on Debian, and that user has write permissions throughout the install directory, and I don't see any issue with the wiki's access control lists that would prevent me from creating new pages.
Does anyone have a clue how I might fix this?
Update: I changed the configuration setting that makes it look for available updates, mostly because I wanted to temporarily suppress the update notices while I was troubleshooting and apparently that was all it took. The notices must have somehow prevented the buttons from appearing on the page.
