I am also displeased about the decision, but I also completely understand the reasoning behind it: the HTML option was an easy way to abuse open Wikis to make them distribute malware and track users, and the implications of enabling this option were often not clear to the administrators of the wikis.
When making this plugin, I had the objective to re-enable HTML tags, while disallowing any unsafe practices ... and at the same time allowing for a much more simplified syntax, which is more in line with how a Wiki should work.
However, it is clear that there are still use-cases that are outside of this solution. It would be good to document these so we can see if there are solutions or workarounds available. Simply complaining about it is not helping anybody.
