I've installed DokuWiki on a number of servers and have never had performance issues. (The wiki, that is. According to the spam I get, I personally suffer from a lot of performance issues, but we'll leave that for another forum.) I've also seen tons of other wikis based on DokuWiki that do not have performance issues.
However, I am experimenting with an install of DokuWiki on a freebie webhost and it is running relatively slowly. I did some not very scientific performance comparisons with PmWiki (loaded to be feature-comparable to DokuWiki, caching disabled), LionWiki, and WikkaWiki on the same server, and they all run about twice as fast as DokuWiki. The performance hit is bad enough that it makes using DokuWiki not very fun ... even though it's my preferred platform.
I have tried disabling the compression options as mentioned
here, but it seems to have made a trivial difference at best.
Questions:
1) Any idea what might be causing the slowdown, especially given that the other wikis are considerably snappier?
2) Is there anything else I might consider doing to speed up DokuWiki?
