Ah ok. I would suggest to send a mail to the mailinglist to see if there are any cons against it. Furthermore this is worth to be a Feature Request in the Bugtracker.

It automatically gets modified if I check the "notify user" field.
If I don't check it the user is not notified of the change, or I have to do that manually.
I would prefer the system to generate an email notification of the change without having to change the password.

You click on "Modify User" and add the appropriate group to the field on the right site. Then click on "Save".
Why do you need to change the password? If you keep the password field untouched, the old password won't get modified.

Hi,
it would be great if I could change user data as admin in the user manager without touching the user's current password.
I administer a wiki in which the standard group "user" only has the right to read the start page, nothing else.
When a new user registers, I get an email, and if I know him/her, change his/her group to one with read/write access to the rest of the wiki.
In this step I see no alternative to leaving the password field empty and checking "notify user", so that a new password is generated.
This often causes confusion since the user gets a second password or may even already have customized his/hers.
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a chance to implement e.g. a switch "don't change password" to the user data modification dialogue?
