Hello,
I upgraded to the newest dokuwiki, and I wanted to see the new sidebar. I assume it is the "dokuwiki" template and not the "default" template. Anyway, the sidebar is still on top like it was in the old version, how do I move it? I do have a sidebar.txt in my root.

Perhaps your window is just not wide enough. You need at least something about 960px width; otherwise dokuwiki thinks, you have a mobile device; only as far as I understood that stuff.

Width looks fine though :(

You need to configure the path to your sidebar-page in configuration file (6th line on configuration side). Here in my wiki it is ":wiki:navigation".

Assuming you mean where it says "Sidebar page name (if template supports it), empty field disables the sidebar" I have tried both "sidebar" and ":sidebar" to no avail.

The old version didn't have a sidebar. What do you mean by "sidebar"? Probably something else than we do...

Your reply was not helpful :/
Regardless of what the old version may or may not have looked like, this new template as my "sidebar" page with my navigation on top, instead of on the left. I just want to know how to get it on the left.

You didn't answer my question. I really have the feeling we are talking about two different things...
Is your wiki publicly accessible? That would make it easier to help.

Some of it is, but I dont have the template up right now, am working with the updated monobook.
Sidebar = place to put my navigation, you know, on the side :P

This I believe is a pic of the new template:

And I assume where it has the buttons to download, support, etc is the new sidebar? I don't have this.

I have done all of this:
template is set to 'dokuwiki'
sidebar page name is set to 'sidebar' (without quotes)
sidebar.txt is in my wiki root.
But it still shows up like this:

To me it seems that your window is not wide enough. Template automatically switches to "ipad"-look.
paladin-brewer
Can I get it to not do that?

Somewhere in the template the "limits" are given. I remember something about 960px. You should search within the files of the template and try to adjust these values accordingly.
But actually I do not know whether my assumption (not wide enough screen) was correct.

It's in the css/mobile.css[/m]: Just change [m]max-width: 979px[/m] (which is meant for tablets) to whatever fits better. But remember that underneath there is also [m]max-width: 480px (which is meant for phones). So, those two together should make sense.

By the way, a screenshot always helps. So it could have saved us a lot of time and guessing.

Okay so I moved down the width slowly until it fixed, but it jumps from being on top to being on the side with way too much width. Is there a sidebar width setting somewhere else?

Also the redundant menu. I use the indexmenu plugin which I prefer to use, I don't want the auto-created one.

Yes, there is a
__sidebar_width__ setting in the
style.ini.

There is no auto-created one. The duplicate menu is a bug in the indexmenu plugin.

Although I have a wide high-resolution monitor, I also thought there was something wrong with my setup since I usually set my browser (usually FF) to only half my screen width, and things looked fine when I checked in Chrome and IE.
Perhaps this feature could be highlighted somehow?
I'd also suggest lowering the default, as IMO it jumps to the one-column mode unnecessarily wide.
