Subject: Epub does not seem to work.
I have made two epub files, but the Epub Extension for Firefox does not seem to open them. Tried several ways. It says it can't open them.

Does this work with indexmenu?

If working will it be a good instruction manual with links?

The epub interface is a little strange in how it works. I got it going after realizing the one icon will load a downloaded epub file. Then there is a hidden menu at the bottom whiich you can use to get the Table of contents. I was able to see how this might work fine, provided it would work with linux, mac and windows.

The biggest pleasure was it was sooo easy to create a book.  I hope it will work with indexmenu.
Thanks

Subject: Calibre Reader - will get it.
Myron,
I am starting to get excited about this.  https://calibre-ebook.com/download
has Mac, Win, Portable, and Win64.  Also Android (Kindle reader or aldiko, fb reader, google play reader, moon+) and iPhone  (I am sure)

A couple of questions:
1. Will it work using TOC created with Indexmenu?
2. We have enjoyed being able to edit our html releases, but that has turned into a big task.
3. Is there a way to edit the epub output or not? (it might help with the process)
4. One area where we edit a lot is image files, to get them as compact as possible.
5. Size is very important do these files get very big?  We have a total of 350 pages, but the manual itself is about 87 namespaces or pages. Some pages are long.

1. It creates its own index based on the epub standard and this is a fixed element in the epub
3. For editing, get Sigil: https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/Sigil/releases/tag/0.9.10
4. Images are those you load into the DokuWiki media directoiry
5.  Have no idea about this.  I don't think that anyone has created so large a book before.  But I assume that the computer on which you build it will have to have the resources required.  You may have to increase the time allowed for php scripts, which you do in php.ini.

-- I guess I wasn't too clear about this. Can we use "Indexmenu TOC" --into--> epub?

3. For editing, get Sigil: https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/Sigil/releases/tag/0.9.10
     - thanks again!

4. Images are those you load into the DokuWiki media directory
    - Ok, we must get them correct to begin with.

     - seems to be much faster than siteexport.  I think it is creating images of each page.  SiteExport can create Pdf or html but it is a real problem getting it to work!

Subject: Another test with SiteExport
I found a document that said the path for the zip file must be in:
E:\DokuWikiStick\dokuwiki\data\media\wiki

So I added in Admin > Configuration > SiteExport  this destination path and filename
E:\DokuWikiStick\dokuwiki\data\media\wiki\se-html.zip

Then I added a real zip file in that directory, by that name. The file is an empty zip file.
I then ran the plugin again and got this output.
It is still not working, but it is getting close.

So I still haven't got the right setup.

The siteexport debug file is working.  E:\DokuWikiStick\dokuwiki\tmp\se-debug.txt
And it shows the same thing as above.

Subject: Don't forget this is using a dokuwiki-stick on a USB -SiteExport - it now exports one page hurray. Big deal
Problem:  The SiteExport configuration mentions a "path and filename" for the zip file. Evidently the path is not needed and makes it FAIL.

SOLUTION:

plugin»siteexport»zipfilename
Wiki Path and name for exported ZIP file     ENTER   "se-html.zip"    [a filename with .zip]   :-)

Don't use a pathname even though it says so, is what worked for me!

Now after testing some more with multiple pages, I see from the siteexport Debug file which is here

plugin»siteexport»debugFile
Debug File
"E:\DokuWikiStick\dokuwiki\tmp\se-debug.txt"      (and add that file in that location before trying it.)
It says "File" and I have a path. I have not tried just having a file with no path...yet. It is working.

So what is wrong now with multiple pages?

Subject: SiteExport  debug file "se-debug.txt" location and path
I have found that the only way to get the debug.txt file to work is to input the full pathname and file name.
It also appears that the best place to have it is

plugin»siteexport»debugFile
Debug File                            <----This is what it says, not Debug File and Pathname!!!!

"E:\DokuWikiStick\dokuwiki\data\tmp\se-debug.txt"

For this install it can also go in "E:\DokuWikiStick\dokuwiki\tmp\se-debug.txt" and work too.
I found that the full pathname is required or it does not work!

This has taken an inordinate amount of time. Users cannot be expected to figure this stuff out.

I still have not figured out why multiple pages does not work.

Subject: Site export: multiple page.
Tried another multiple namespace Site Export.

It just says "List is empty I guess"  That is wonderfully helpful.  Is it some setup problem or a bug?
There are NO WARNINGS in the output file.  So what am I to think?

Subject: Bitunami-Dokuwiki  SITE EXPORT
SITE EXPORT

I have been able to export single pages and the full document (all namespaces), but in between is not working (specify level).  I will try to get Indexmenu TOC going with smaller multipage segments but it seems like the choice for specify level is a program problem.

It does seem faster and more reliable locally, but what a mess getting it working to 75%!!!!

Depending on what our results are, we may move to a different process.

Subject: EPUB EXTENSION
Dear Myron,

Dave, the head developer really likes the idea of using EPUB because it is familiar and is available on many platforms. He had one question of me about support, because with site export which we have stuck with for about 3 years, we never were able to resolve some pretty important issues, and it was always a pain to get it running properly.

Also there are entirely too many choices that aren't described properly, and we need much better pages or places to make a comprehensive excludes list of pages that we don't want in the Release version of the user manual. In site export now, it is all compressed into one small field in Configuration. Also we need a much bettere Excludes page, which has sequential fields where we just enter the namespace(s).

The other thing that we need is a way to describe what to do with certain links and files that work on the wiki, but should not in the Release version that is going to be part of the Program documentation.

We are very unfamiliar with how the process will change and apprehensive about getting into another iteration of partial functionality.

Do you plan to develop this plugin and maintain it like ckedit etc?  That would be very helpful to know. I realize this is unfair to ask in an opensource environment, but I can assure you we are trying our best with OpenCPN, to provide good documentation and it would be wonderful to have something that really works for us to make the job easier!

Thank you for all your advice and help.

Subject: SiteExport - Report
Duniamesin   Yes, It is complex. Can you explain further?

After more work
Unfortunately the plugin has some real problems that make it an incomplete solution:

Single Page Exports show the Dokuwiki mobile interface, multipage exports do not. #96)
https://github.com/i-net-software/dokuwiki-plugin-siteexpo…

"All sub namespaces" - Processes totally independent from the chosen parent namespace #95
https://github.com/i-net-software/dokuwiki-plugin-siteexpo…

"Specified Depth" fails in this configuration. #94
https://github.com/i-net-software/dokuwiki-plugin-siteexpo…

Also when processing large files in remote mode it fails
  * even when the PHP cache and  admin > configure > siteexport set maximum script execution time is set very high
  * php max_execution_time  is set very high
  * Then the pages that it fails on have to be excluded!!! This can be a series of pages.

Are there any PHP authors out there willing to repair/improve these problems?

I am the author of upwards of 40 plugins and contributor to some others.  I do my best to keep up.  The epub plugin uses the epub 2.0 standard, the current is at 3.1.  This is like the difference between html 2 or 3 and html 5.  Browsers still read html 2 and 3, and epub readers still read 2.0.  Otherwise there would be a lot of lost e-books and web pages.

Calibre and Sigil will always read books created by the epub plugin, but sometimes there are issues with the edge browser's implementation of the epub standard and sometimes with the firefox plugin.  However, in both cases, if you load the e-book into Sigil, it will fix any non-conforming problems and then the book can be read anywhere.  I am currently working on syncing the books made by my plugin with the results produced by Sigil.

Last summer I added support for mp3 audio and video, at the request of a professor of music at some university.  It's not the epub side of the equation that is a potential problem but the dokuwiki side.  Sometimes the core developers make changes which give plugin authors a bit of  work.  And if such changes are made, you should always be able to get someone who knows dokuwki to make whatever fix is needed.  This of course is true for any dokuwiki plugin. But I suspect you shouldn't have anything like the problems you are experiencing with siteexport.
