''your text'' does not define a code block, it just marks that a monospaced font has to be used. Therefore your URLs get parsed as link and the CSS marks these links as any other external ones.

Use ''%%yourtext%%'' or ''<nowiki>yourtext</nowiki>'' to prevent this. Or use the UnformattedCode plugin to make this the default behavior.

div.dokuwiki div.navi li a {
  [ ...]
  color: __nearly_white__;
  [ ...]
  box-shadow: 0 1px 3px __box-shadow__;
}

has nothing to do with the topic, but there is a wrong space before "clerk". Should be $conf['xmlrpcuser'] = '@admin,@clerk'; if "clerk" is a group. :-)

All of a sudden, apparently without me changing anything, my home page is showing links such as http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/&/doku.php?id=agenda2012-07-16.

The ampersand immediately after the domain seems as if it shouldn't be there.  If you follow the link, the page display is all wrong, presumably because the CSS isn't being found.  Editing the link to remove the ampersand makes the page display correctly.

If I edit the configuration, changes can make the problem go away for a while - but then it seems to come back without having made any other changes.

I don't know where to look for a solution - any suggestions please?

I think the problem is that your server is accepting and internally redirecting the invalid URL
http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/&/doku.php
  to
http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/&/doku.php?id=/start
and there is just no layout because the "&" leads to non working CSS-URLs

But there is nothing wrong in general, all links and stuff are working:
http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/
http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/doku.php?id=agenda2012-07-16
If I insert the /&/, then the described effect appears:
http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/&/doku.…?id=agenda2012…

However, this problem only exists if someone is accessing the invalid address at all (and sees content where e.g. an error would be better).
I'm prettyy sure there is no error because of your rewritng rules (even if DokuWiki does not rely on them right now, your Server is using them if defined in the .htaccess). But who is using http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/&/doku.php instead of http://docs.kirkbymoorside.co/ to have this problem at all?

$conf['auth']['ad']['domain_controllers'] = 'dc@company.loc';

Quote by Starko:

README,  "III. Customizing the template"  - "Own logo").  Editiere /vector/user/screen.css (vgl. README,  "III. Customizing the template"  - "Own CSS").

Ausgangspunkt, mit dem du arbeiten könntest:
#page-base {
  height: 10em;
}
#left-navigation {
  top: 7.5em
}
#right-navigation {
  margin-top: 7.5em
}
#p-logo {
  width: 500px; /* Breite deines Banners */
}

Sorry for my late reply. A possible solution would be the removal of the sidebar-blocks from the array used to store them. We can do this in /user/boxes.php (NOT /conf/boxes.php) so the changes will be preserved on updates.

You might try something like the following:

if (!empty($conf["useacl"])) { // no check if ACLs are disabled
  //keys are the array keys used in $_vector_boxes
  //values are the DokuWiki site id to check
  $check["p-navigation"] = tpl_getConf("vector_navigation_location");
  $check["foobar"]       = ':example:page';

  foreach ($pages_to_check as $box_key => $page_to_check) {
    if (!empty($box_key) &&
        auth_quickaclcheck(cleanID($page_to_check)) < AUTH_READ) {
      unset($_vector_boxes[$box_key]); //user got no access, remove box
    }
  }
}

However, I did not test the code above... so just report if it does not work :-). I think I will add an configurabl ACL check in the next vector release.

<WRAP 200px center>
^ A  ^  B  ^  C  ^  D  ^  E  ^
| 1  |  2  |  3  |  4  |  5  |
</WRAP>

I don't think this is caused by DokuWiki. Maybe your webserver runs mod_security with a rule like SecFilter /etc?

Maybe this is enough for you: FAQ: How can I hide the edit tab and boxes until users are logged in?

Vector does not respect the ACL-Rules for the boxes by default, because they are not real wiki pages. However, it would be possible to change that. E.g. I could add an additional array key / flag and ACL check if really needed.

First of all - what do you mean with masthead? The German "Impressum"? If yes, an image is not really the best choise (the Telemediengesetz says that it has to be barrier-free AFAIK). Or do you mean something like a general headline you want to display on all pages?

Then: if you want to edit the layout, you have to edit the template you are using. It is located below /lib/tpl/[yourtmpl]/. The different templates may use different ways to display the content. I never used the usable template, but it seems to be not maintained anymore (Last update: 2009-04-13). Many new features like the Media Manager won't work with it. However, you should place yout edits in lib/tpl/usable/main.php.

Can you provide a link? I'm sure there is somebody who can help you out if we can look at the wiki itself. :-)

is your server allowed to establish remote connections? HTTPClient.php get() -> sendRequest() needs fsockopen() to download a plugin. Is the function forbidden in php.ini? PHP-SSL available?
