Just thinking out of the box here, I briefly went through our plugins looking for a snipper and came across https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:xssnipper Plugin.
Here is what I propose, you could use code snipper to configure a button in the tool bar that will bring in "&nbsp" at the click of an icon on the tool bar.

Possibly I'm wrong, but if you edit a page, mark the lines you want to turn into code snipped then you can just use one of the quickbuttons "TT". Please check Toolbar for description.

If that is not sufficient you may use a plugin like xssnipper. That delivers further code-buttons to this toolbar.

If you are not interested into xssnipper features you might want to use a button plugin and define the substitution yourself.
e.g. codebutton_ext or search the others (e.g. codebutton2, custombuttons)

Lege dazu im Verzeichnis dokuwiki\data\pages eine Datei mit dem Namen sidebar.txt an. In dieser kannst Du manuell Deine Links eintragen (DokuWiki Syntax !). Further you have to configure the parameter sidebar with value sidebar.

Beispiel:
Navigation
~~NOCACHE~~
**DokuWiki Plugins** \\
- Issue Tracker \\
- Orphanmedia \\
- Rater \\
- LangDelete \\
- TopBar Menu \\
- NEWS System \\
- xsSnipper \\
- RemoveOld\\
- xsStockView\\
- wip\\

Tested with your example snippet:
{(xssnipper>,1,php test slide,
// 1. check if $xssnipper['filepath'] exist, else error message
   if(!file_exists($xssnipper['filepath'])) {
      msg('file '.$xssnipper['filepath'].' not found',-1);
      return false;
   }
)}

Using 'Release 2012-01-25a "Angua"' on a QuickPHP server, same results with standard and dokubook template. The example snippet is the only thing on a new page of the wiki. Nothing is visible.

if the code block created with xssnipper would show up at all

As you can see on my homepage (xssnipper Description - Standard Code snipped) it is working.
I would need some further information, to solve your issue.

1. Please describe the behavior, attach the complete syntax you are using and attach a screen shot (if something is visible).
2. Does you wrap around some other syntax plugins like wrap or box ?
3. Further information necessary to find the root cause could be:
  - DokuWiki Version
  - used Template

Oh, sorry, for some reason I thought it was mandatory to use an external file. Tried it out just now. Would probably work perfectly - if the code block created with xssnipper would show up at all :)

I would have liked something where I don't have to use separate files for the code
There is no need to use a file it is just one use case. You may insert the code directly into the syntax as described.
The following syntax does apply:
{(xssnipper>,[start line],[code language] [code block file] [slider] ,[ code ])}
where [code language] [code block file] [slider] are optional and
[ code ] is the snipped you want to show.

Is it possible to actually edit the code using xssnipper?
Only by modification of the [ code ] snipped via DokuWiki Editor.

that works exactly like the code-tag in the current DokuWiki-version, just collapsible
Where do you see the diff except to have more features ?

Thanks. I would have liked something where I don't have to use separate files for the code, but still, thanks. My only question: Is it possible to actually edit the code using xssnipper? Otherwise, it's useless to me... What I was looking for was something that works exactly like the code-tag in the current DokuWiki-version, just collapsible...

similar to: http://www.fristercons.de/fcon/dok…?id=xssnipper:xssnipper ?

That is done by css:
      border-radius:               5px;
      box-shadow:         3px 3px #CECECE;

The information is already stored to a log by a sniffer ?

If the plugin should read this info offline from a log you may use already existing plugins e.g.:
http://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:xssnipper?s[]=xssnipper
or simply the DW provided <code> syntax.

Remark: both ways you have to specify the snipped either by file-path+start/end line (xssnipper) or the content itself (code)

Please specify a bit more what the plugin should do, e.g.:
- read a files content
- differ between send/receive patterns
- output send/receive with diff colours, e.g. as a table + icons
=> not that complicated to develop

see attachment for example plugin
example initiated by following DW page syntax: {(xsviewlog>,,,)}

more complex
  - prevent doubles, filter for events
  - any other anlysis ?
