Hi,
My name is Frank and I'm working as a system administrator/IT manager (mainly Linux servers and clients, lots of Windows and very few Macs [e.g. mine :-) ]) in a big research institute in Heidelberg (Germany). I was born in Switzerland just before the mid-sixties.
I started using DokuWiki for my own internal documentation and to create help pages for my users, because I liked DokuWiki's webbased administration, its extendability and the fact, that is is filebased. Text editing is sooo much easier then database editing :-). I'm currently preparing the migration of our Mediawiki farm (10 wikis) to DokuWiki, because farming with MW really s***s. And finally I'll also switch my handwritten, supersimple, private homepage to DokuWiki if I ever find the time to work on this project...
It's not that DokuWiki is 100% perfect (e.g. see the restrictions in table editing...). But all in all and having worked with Mediawiki, TWiki and Tiki Wiki (although not very successfully with the latter) in the past, DokuWiki is the one I'm always coming back to, because it gives me what I need in an efficient way.
Thank you, DW!
