I'm not a dokuwiki user yet.
( I'm a french lady, living in France and working in the cinéma area ! I'm not a computer scientist at all...)
My employer ask me to find a management solution, and dokuwiki could be the awnser :
We need to create a list of all the employees (contact informations, email, website, competences) witch could be a mailing list too (a maling list with sub-category ! ).
But the most important capacity we need is the participative function.
We need that each employee can complete and modify his own file.
I mean 100 persons connect and modify his own file/page and only his own... The most important information we need is "available for working or not". That's mean also, users can search who is available in the main list or who is available in sub-categories.
Dokuwiki could be an awnser?
