Good news. The .wiki top level domain went live a while ago and with the help of the good people at nic.wiki I was able to secure
doku.wiki for us.
doku.wiki already forwards to dokuwiki.org
Additionally, I spent some hours today to set it up as a specialized URL shortener for DokuWiki.
Here's how it works:
You can put any page name after the domain name and the system tries to find a matching wiki page on dokuwiki.org. It searches the root namespace and the faq:, plugin:, devel:, config:, template: and install: namespaces (in that order). It also tries singular and plural forms and a bit of fuzzy matching. If it doesn't find anything matching, it will forward to our Google Custom search.
Examples:
*
doku.wiki/modsecurity
*
doku.wiki/userewrite
In addition to that, all users with manager permissions in the wiki can created named shortcuts (these have priority over the
automatically picked ones).
Example:
*
doku.wiki/dl
*
doku.wiki/andi
So this new domain will be mostly useful for quickly pointing users to documentation eg. in IRC chats, mails or here in the forum.
