Hey! I have not abandoned DokuWiki! We are still here at
http://tpwtestuser.com/doku/
I am only testing is all, I have been playing with both wiki's for a year now, enjoying much of everything both have to offer. Sorry I have not been here on the forums lately, that is due more to family than abandonment. I do love DokuWiki, it is so easy to use and quick, really quick!
I wasn't really testing MediaWiki as much as I was testing the skin called BlueSpice that is available for Mediawiki, it allows a Wysiwyg among many other things like creating categories on the fly, adding categories at time of article creation, ease of use with templating for pages, and more.
But, and a big but, DokuWiki is waaaay easier to use and the concept is much easier for folks to grab onto I think. I have been struggling big time with which wiki platform to use. Our main website is a woodworking community forum. And our forum is loaded with folks aged in the upper years of their life, and ease of use for creating wiki pages is a must, without the wiki page ending up somewhere in a far off place sitemap in a category unrelated to the article they just created.
I have also been looking at TikiWiki at
http://tpwtestuser.com/tiki/tiki-index.phpand it is a great wiki as well.
The biggest plus side of DokuWiki in my opinion is "no database". With database wiki's there seems to be more glitches and errors.
But on the other hand creating articles in a MediaWiki with Bluespice is easier in my opinion because of all the features in view as you create the article such as adding categories, creating with a template, infoboxes of which I love about Mediawiki, and a comprehensive file uploader with copyright submission and selector at time of upload of such image or file.
As you can see by reading this, I am still torn as to which one to use, I have flip flopped in this reply a few times already.
I'll get my butt together soon enough, as my forum folks are screaming at me to get this wiki off the ground, so I need to make a decision very soon.
But, DokuWiki rocks!
I am sorry to have disappointed you, :) just kidding. But I love DokuWiki, what you are seeing in my other test sites is my complete indecisiveness on which one to use.
