Hi,
Having a problem with using the Wiki Upgrade plugin to upgrade Wiki. Have tried repeatedly but seem to always get an error stating /.htaccess.dist is not writeable. Have adjusted permissions but still getting error. Rather new to DokuWiki so any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

What are the permissions and who is owner?
pbwikisupport
here is what I have:
/srv/www/vhosts/dokuwiki
-rw-rw-rw- 1 apache apache 1509 Aug 23 2015 .htaccess.dist

What happens if you remove that file? Or, you can rename it, so as not to lose it, and then the updater will not have trouible with it.
pbwikisupport
same results. The only other /.htaccess.dist file I can find appears during the actual upgrade process and appears to be deleted after I abort the upgrade process.

Can you post a screen shot of what exactly the update reports.

/inc/Mailer.class.php will be updated.
! /.htaccess.dist is not writable!
/lib/scripts/media.js will be updated.
! Some files aren't writable. Automatic upgrade not possible.

What I'm after is whether or not most of the other files are updatable and only this is not.
pbwikisupport
The only one that shows up as not writable is the /.htaccess.dist
Steve
andi
either create the .htaccess.dist file and make it writable or make the parent directory writable
pbwikisupport
It appears to me that the .htaccess.dist file is the one that comes with the upgrade. Have looked intensely for the file that is not writable. Not finding an issue until the wiki upgrade plugin is run.

I have the same problem. Haven't found any solution to this

Ok, I know, I'm replying to an old posting, but ...
I installed **2017-02-19c "Frusterick Manners"** and then was notified that an upgrade to **2017-02-19d "Frusterick Manners"**' was available. So I used the Upgrade plugin and it failed, as above, with "/.htaccess.dist is not writable".
What I (eventually) did, after searching the forums, Google etc, was as follows:
* Login to the server.
* cd /var/www/htdocs/ (DokuWiki installation folder).
* sudo touch .htaccess.dist
* sudo chown apache:apache .htaccess.dist
That created a blank .htaccess.dist file, owned by the web server user, apache.
After that, I reran the upgrade manager plugin and it passed verification and upgraded just fine.
HTH
Cheers,
Norm.
