I've had a family genealogy site up since 1996. I am now using Dokuwiki to replace the "Registry" function that lists people and their lineage/story. My goal is to someday let the users themselves "self" upload and edit their section - but for the moment I'm too concerned about hackers and spammers so all editing and uploading is done by me.
I have not gone "live" with the Dokuwiki site yet, for several reasons. The test site lives on another domain within the same server.
- I don't yet know what security items I'll need other than Captcha - nor how to install any of them.
- I don't yet know enough about Dokuwiki to transfer it from the "test" domain to the real domain (directory structure, where data is, etc.)
- I don't yet know what links to create within the existing Registry to point at the Dokuwiki. Yes, I'm sure it's simple, but I have zillions of them around the website pointing to the Registry.
And lastly, I don't yet know how to upgrade, install plugins, themes and so on.
I run both Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu) environments.
