Subject: How to find free syntax names?
If i choose a name for a syntax addition, e.g. "<handle>" or "[TESTING]" or "{{myplug}}" that the name is not already used by another plugin? The documentation at DokuWiki on creating plugins requests to search through all plugins :-(
I'd like to have a central database where to lookup, register a name to not conflict with others.

Well, there's a central registry of plugin names. The list of plugins at dokuwiki.org. So it should be easy to find a unique plugin name. Once you have that you could use that name for your syntax and chances for a collision are quite low. I think you're overthinking this.

Do you imply that a syntax plugin always uses its plugin name for the syntax in some way?

Not always. But more often than not.

So, where is that "central registry" you mention? If its the name, we already worked out that it's only a good approximation. Maybe i overdue, over thousands of plugin creaters seems to master this task ;-)
