blubb Hi, how can I disable the use of cookies altogether? I know that to be logged in a cookie is needed. But I am the only user in my DokuWiki. All visitors are merely guests, so it should not be necessary to set cookies (a simple php site does not need any cookies to function either). I already read https://www.dokuwiki.org/faq:cookies But it is not clear to me how to switch them off.
andi I don't think you can't. You can disable the login mechanism and ACLs completely through the useacl config option. But sessions will still be initialized and preference cookies will still be used. Also you differentiate between you and "visitors [who] are merely guests" - how should DokuWiki make that distinction without logins?
blubb Well, if there isn't a cookie present the user automatically is a guest. Only after the logon a cookie is set. This is my understanding. I do not care if I get a cookie (after logging in). Only my guests have to be cookie-free.
blubb That is an unfortunate limitation. :/ The problem is, for legal reasons, if we set a cookie, we need the user's consent before setting it. There is no way around it. Using a "cookie warning banner" after the cookie is already set is risky business. Also it ruins the user experience, especially when cookies are not _really_ needed, like in this case. Using a landing page on the web site would be the only option. But it would have to be displayed not only on the index page but also on each and every sub page...
turnermm But it would have to be displayed not only on the index page but also on each and every sub page... For something like this, you could use the template's footer, which is independent of page-loading.
