Hello all,
I'm developing a public wiki and would like to use a
Creative Commons licence, like that of the main DW wiki which uses a CC 2.0 by-nc-sa licence.
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the licensing of contributions to a public wiki. Take the main
main DW wiki. Andi wrote most of it but lots of people add and edit text too. According to the
FAQ, the text is licensed to the 'DokuWiki Community' under CC 2.0 by-nc-sa. Contributors can't say "hey that's mine!"
This isn't obvious when creating or editing a page, and although in that wiki's case I doubt it's problematic, I wondered if others have encountered issues with this, or have advice.
* Should contributors be forced to accept handing their contribution over to a community?
* Is it feasible to allow other licenses for some contributions, or allow contributors to retain full copyright?
* Do other licences offer advantages, like the GNU FDL (used by Wikipedia) or a public domain statement?
All thoughts welcome.
cheers,
Ben
