Hi all,
let me explain:
A multilingual wiki implies users with different mother tongues (to keep it simple). These users should be able to use the full potential of the wiki tools, in their own languages, without ever having to come across any language barriers, such as "master" or "default" language configurations.
The current Dokuwiki multilingual strategy uses the
translation plugin, which has great features like
translateUI but also a massive drawback: its single
namespace limitation. With the latter, a "foreigner" simply cannot build an efficient internal linking scheme without prior knowledge of some "default" language, engrained in the URL by design.
As a matter of fact, Wikipedia handles multilingual support from a multilingual perspective and in an intuitive way (translate the URL from one language to another, it just works), whereas Dokuwiki seems to struggle to "let go" of hierarchy and centralisation.
Is multilingual support designed by monolingual people?
Or have I missed something critical?
