I want my wiki to have a few articles linked on the front page so users see something new when they visit, similar to Wikipedia.
I've tried using the RANDOMINC plugin to show the title section of five random articles but it's SLOW to load, since every page load is doing 5 random searches. It would be better more efficient to have the random page generated only once per day, stored in cache (I guess) so there's no additional workload every time it loads.
Any thoughts how I could do this? I don't know much php.

For information: the articles appearing on Wikipedia's front page are not selected at random. Digging in a bit, the front page is a mass of special HTML coding that calls in Wiki templates for the actual content. Therefore an editor only needs to change a simple template and the front page is updated. Although the whole thing is fully protected (ie locked), you can view the source by using ''view source'' where the ''edit'' tab would normally be.

Well thanks for that information - but what's the answer to my actual question?! ;) :-D
