Subject: How to remove link icons? [SOLVED]
Been trying to remove the little link icons that appear when you insert an external hyperlink, e.g. the file icon when inserting a file, the globe icon when inserting a weblink, etc. I've tried this https://www.dokuwiki.org/tips:disabling_link_icons and also looked in design.css but couldn't find .urlextern so am at a loss on what to do.

Managed to get rid of the globe icon for a web link however the file icon is still there, would ideally like to get rid of it if possible.

You can add your own CSS-rules (update-safe).

Which rule particularly selector do you must use: You can explore this with Firebug. There is no need to know more than Firebug indicates about the present CSS-style of the relevant HTML-element.

You can create an userstyle.css as described here: https://www.dokuwiki.org/devel:css

These style files are useful to override small portions of template or plugin styles without running into problems on updating those later.

The css for these back-ground images are generated on the fly by the css.php script.  You can get rid of all of them with this:

/* conf/userstyle.css */
a {
  background-image: none !important;
  padding: 0px !important;
}

Otherwise you have to create a userstyle.css which codes for each link separately.
