A little update:
I installed the current phpdoc master via composer. Now it also works with PHP7.

Well, no more luck with composer. the phar version worked. At least it did not crash, but there were still tons of PHP warning. The resulting doc is hard to read and navigate...

Yes, @LarsDW223. the changes are more than sufficient to do what I wanted. I can create a named style for the background and the border. And the autoloading of CSS adds color to the preformatted text.  perfect ! I'll publish  my work as soon as possible. I'm currently having difficulties writting the documentation; or maybe is it summer lazyness...
