Subject: Unable to administer (or log into) wiki after recovery
I run a wiki on a personal server at home. I had a backup server failure recently, and long story short, I had to restore dokuwiki  from a safety copy on my desktop. It's mostly working, but I am unable to administer the wiki because I can't seem to log anyone in.

I've deleted acl.auth.php, local.php and users.auth.php and run the install script several times, but it isn't helping. I can enter my credentials but I can't get rid of the "log in" link at the upper right corner, and while I should have a link to administer the site from there, such a link does not appear.

Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this?

Thanks.

First, if you haven't thrown them out altogether, put back the original users.cath, acl.auth, and local.php.  Then check this page, it should help: https://www.dokuwiki.org/faq:forgotten_password?s[]=login

Okay, restored those files from backup.

At this point, I can try to log in on my workstation and I get no admin link. If I log in on the server itself, I have all the links I would expect to see including the admin link. I suspect this is an ACL, but I'm at a loss for how to t/s it at the moment. I'm going to continue to look into it, but have to leave for errands.

I appreciate the help and if you think of anything else, please let me know.

Thanks!

If you can log in and have edit rights to the dokuwiki files, then open conf/users.auth.php and at the entry for your user name, where it says user, enter a comma and add admin: user, admin.

On opening conf/users.auth.php, I notice that my user already has those items tagged on the end.  They are not in that order:

...Mark Adams:madams9@gmail.com:admin,user

Changing the order of those items makes no difference.

Still working on it.

Marc Adams is not a valid userid.

admin:$1$cce258b2$U9o5nK0z4MhTfB5QlKF23/:admin:admin@mail.org:admin,user
Add the above to your users.auth.php and then login as admin.  From there you can go to the user admin panel and create a new user, as required, with a new password.

If you do not have a users.auth.php, then create the following users.auth.php:
# <?php exit()?>
admin:$1$cce258b2$U9o5nK0z4MhTfB5QlKF23/:admin:admin@mail.org:admin,user
Save it to conf.

Okay, did that. It made no difference - admin (and my regular user, madams) can both log in just fine and tehy get the admin link on the server copy, but do not get the admin link on my workstation (on the same LAN).  Still stumped.

Thanks.

Try reinstalling the template.

I guess the worst-case scenario option is to simply build a new wiki and dump all the old wiki's pages and media files into it, run the search indexer and reinstall your extensions and styles, and re-make your ACL rules if applicable.
