Hi,
I'm having trouble with getting email notifications and subscriptions to work. I'm running Dokuwiki 2008-05-05 on IIS6, so far without problems. But when I try to send email, I get the error below:
Looks like there was an error on sending the password mail. Please contact the admin!
A quick look at the docs tells me that Dokuwiki uses the standard PHP mail function. I have this correcltly set up in my php.ini file, to an SMTP server, and have not had problems sending emails from other PHP software, or indeed my own testing of the mail function.
So does anyone have any idea why the email function might not be working?
Thanks a lot,
Stephen

If email from other PHP apps works I would double-check the settings in DokuWiki's setup. Any chance you made a typo in the mailfrom line and the SMTP server is rejecting it?
I am using the 2008-05-05 version of DokuWiki and sending emails without any problem in a Server 2003/IIS environment. I ended up installing the SMTP service in order to get email working because the SMTP server I use requires authentication (not something that PHP supports as near as I can tell). I configured the SMTP service to accept anonymous email from the local server ONLY and forward to the SMTP server that I configured PHP to use (localhost would probably also work).

Thanks for your help skider86.
I still can't get email working. My SMTP server is set up and working fine in php.ini, I have tried using sendmail.exe anyway though, and I still get the same problems. There are no typos in my email address and I've tried a few. I'm totally baffled at this point.
Is there any logging in dokuwiki, or a way of turning on a more verbose error message?

Solved it. :-)
Qmail was rejecting the emails based on the carriage returns. Problem with the mail server setup I guess.
