Tonight I was having problems running my CGI scripts on my web server which were giving me '500' errors. Looking into the error on the Apache site it mentions using the error logs to divine the problem, so I went looking for them... only my logs aren't where Apache site says they SHOULD be. Actually NONE of my Apache2 files are. The Apache2 install was automatically set up and configured by the OS X install DVD when I did the fresh install of Leopard so whatever Apple defaults to when installing is what I have.
Now MAYBE Apple decided to put the install somewhere OTHER than /usr/local/apache2/ but the only apache2 directory I can find is /private/etc/apache2/ which wouldn't be an issue if it weren't missing the /logs/, /cgi-bin/, and almost every other directory I expected to be there. So I can't check the logs and I don't know where to find the correct httpd.conf file to edit!
I am wondering if the Apache2 folder installed with the DokuWiki stack has anything to do with the issues I am experiencing or if maybe Apple decided to do some kind of funky non-standard install that has me exasperated? Is there a conflict with the 2 installations of Apache2 on my Mac? My website (with the noted exception of any CGI scripts) and my DokuWiki are both running fine and if I didn't need to add CGI functionality I would have never discovered this problem, but here I am.
Just so you know I am barely one step above functionally illiterate when it comes to Unix, I know just enough to cause a great deal of damage to my own operating system. ls, pico, cp, printf, echo, rm, cd - that's about it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You'll find the Apache 2 logs in Leopard in /var/log/apache2
(most all OS X logs are in /var/log - comes from being a BSD variant rather than an AT&T/Linux variant, Unix has that laid back West Coast feel <g>)
The "Console" utility knows where almost all the logs are. Fire it up and see them all.
