Hi. Two problems, and I don't have hours to fiddle with this anymore, so I'm hoping somebody will see what I'm doing wrong, because I bet it's simple and I'm just overlooking it because I'm spacey and stupid and sleepy and that's definitely not a good combination.
1. Whenever I make a footnote (with double parentheses, as the syntax tells me I should), the displayed page shows a typical-looking superscript footnote #) thing, but there is no corresponding footnote at the bottom of the page (though the dividing line does display) and if I click the #)'s link, nothing happens. I've installed DokuWiki before (on a different server, granted) and didn't have the same problem, but I also fiddled with the code in this one a bit more too. I have no idea why this would result in a not-displaying of footnotes, though...all I really changed was the freaking font in the templates. I didn't delete any code...anywhere!
2. I can't set the permissions for my DokuWiki's start page and just have it effect that page of the site. I'd like the entire wiki to be password-protected except for the start page, which would explain why everything else is protected and how to contact me for a login...but it won't let me! It keeps coming up with an error message that says "ACL is not set-up, so blocking everything" or something along those lines (I can get the exact quote if it's significant)---nevermind that I'm pretty sure ACL is in fact set up...and going into the code itself instead of the admin interface doesn't make any difference. I mean, huh?

Hi amhranaiochta,
I'm not so often here and you probalbly already have solutions for your problems, but I'd like to add some comments.
1. Could it be, that you are using a special template? Try the standard one.
2. Simply post your acl.auth.php file and we take a look at it. But simply giving group "ALL" no rights to all subnamespaces and reading for the frontpage should do it...
