With a the default backend, the following works as expected.
* @ALL 0
* @user 1
With AD or LDAP, once a user logs in they dont have any perms to anything unless ALL also at least has read?
Is there something I am doing wrong when using either of these two backends?
Thanks!

Do you have a group named user in your Active Directory? Probably not. Adjust your ACLs to have the correct group name configured.

I just assumed users will still part of the built in groups, but I do have an acl for Domain Users that gives perms to the root which was not being considered as in the acl file I had a %20 where the space was but adLDAP converts that to a "_".
Its all good now, thanks!
