I am new to DokuWiki and have it running on my Ubuntu 8.10 server. I am eager to begin using templates and have extracted the Arctic template directory to /lib/tpl/arctic as directed, but the Template menu in Configuration Manager is still greyed-out and shows "no other choices available"
Are there other steps I need to take to make the template available to DokuWiki?
Thank you,

No other steps are required. Make sure you correctly extracted the template. There should be a file named lib/tpl/arctic/main.php

I have the same problem, I downloaded cherokee-based.dokuwiki template and unzipped it and then ftp'ed it to the server. When I want install it in the config manager under template, it is all greyed out with "default" and "(no other choices available)"
I have checked the template folder, the file main.php is in the folder. Also, I have checked the web for info and found nothing.
Please can someone help and let me know what is going wrong here?
Many thanks

ok my problem was the template I had selected. Apparently this template "cherokee-based.dokuwiki" no longer works with newer releases. That's too bad because it was really suitable for our purpose.

The archive contains a directory named "cherokee-based.dokuwiki"
This directory should be renamed "cherokee-based".
I'm trying it with Anteater, and everything works fine.
