I would like to assign read only rights to a user or group respectively. Though the user's permissions are set to "read" all they see are the namespaces, no pages. Logged in as admin all namespaces and pages are displayed, clicking on a namespace gives access to all respective pages.
The Access control list management says:
... User Leser currently has the following permissions in namespace *: Read
User Leser currently has the following permissions in namespace aips: Read.
... User Leser currently has the following permissions on page aips:aips_july07: Read
What's wrong?
Thanks in advance,

Hmmm, this might be a stupid question, but have you checked if the users are in the group?
fs
the user "Leser" is in the group "user"
chi
Try to log out, the log in as user "Leser" and append ?do=check to URL and watch the output, look for your permissions. Which auth backend do you use btw?
fs
failed - logged in as "Leser" I get the message "Sorry, you don't have enough rights to continue. Perhaps you forgot to login?". All I see are the namespaces. No URL available. I use BBedit
fs
I copied a working url (when logged in as admin), logged in as user "Leser", pasted the URL with the appended ?do=check but did not get anything different but the no access message;-(
btw: please bear with me that I'm not an internet geek. I'm just an ardent user of DokuWiki and the arctic template ...

Okay there's something else wrong then. You use BBEdit for what? If you log in to your wiki (using a browser) as admin, does the user "Leser" exist in the usermanager? Do you have the right password etc.? I guess cookies are enabled since you're able to log in as admin.
fs
got it now
The permissions for the group @ALL were set to set to none.
Since I assigned read permissions to the group @user it works now.
sorry and thanks for your help!

forgot the assign "solved! in my last post
