As wide monitors are becoming far more prevalent, and are certainly the standard at our office, we felt that having the Preview pane rendered to the Right of the Edit area makes more sense.
Here's how I hacked this in. I'm sure there's a slightly more elegant way to do it, but this does get the job done quickly so you can check it out:
in /inc/html.php
function html_edit(
locate the <div style="99%">
this is the Editing div. change the width from 99% to 50%.
Now we need to move the Preview display over to the Right.
in /inc/html.php
function html_show(
locate "//PreviewHeader"
before
echo <br id="scroll__here"
add:
echo '<div style="position:absolute;top:175px;left:51%;height:80%;overflow:auto;">';
(note that the top positioning has to do with our custom top header. The left 51% moves it over, and the 80% height with overflow allows the user to view the edit and preview side-by-side)
comment out the <br and p_locale_xhtml, as with the side-by-side display, they become irrelevant:
// echo '<br id="scroll__here" ...
// echo p_local_xhtml('preview' ...
and add a closing div, before the "}else{":
echo '</div>';
Lastly, it seemed to need a slight margin around the div.
in /lib/tpl/TEMPLATE/design.css:
locate "div.dockuwiki div.preview {"
change the margin line to:
margin: 1em 1em 1em 1em;
That's it!
Like I said, I know this really isn't following best practices, certainly leaves something to be desired.
But would love to hear if others agree that it seems a better way to do page edits, maybe someone else can help make it more correct. Thanks!
