Reverse lookup of info on existing mark up is no doubt difficult and ambiguous.
Something, even if imperfect, would be better than nothing.
This is especially needed by newbies and when dealing with multiple plugins from others.
Sometimes I can't remember the purpose of markup in pages that I authored myself!
Benefits include reduced learning curve, better Wikis and wider adoption.

Uhm.. to see the effect of some markup, just press "preview"!?
randys
Yes, preview shows me the consequences of the markup.
If the markup is something like (contrived example)
{{foo_par>thing|ding&dong}}
How can I relate "foo_bar" to the documentation that
describes the "ding" and "dong" options, if there is
not an obvious relation to the plugin, which might
be named "snafu"?
FYI, I'm a DokuWiki newbie... pardon my ignorance 8^)

Perhaps a better question is,
What would a DokuWiki expert do to discover information
about some new markup that is stumbled upon in the wild?
What is the expert's thought process? Strategy?
