Subject: Plugins not functioning in FreeBSD. Can anyone help? [SOLVED]
Hi,

I've done a default install of apache (1.3.41_1) and PHP 5 (5.2.10) from the FreeBSD ports tree. Unzipped dokuwiki into /usr/local/www/data and it works great. Its fair to say I love dokuwiki.

The problem is, if I unzip a plugin into lib/plugins it doesn't function, which is a real shame because the true power of dokuwiki is all the great plugins people have written.

There is no error in http-error.log and if I try to use the plugin e.g. <box>test</box> or <note>test</note> nothing breaks. You just get the word "test" displayed like normal text. I've had a search on this forum & via google and can't find anyone with a similar experience so I'm stumped.

Can anyone help me work out what's wrong e.g. what debug information should I be looking for? What tests should I be doing?

Thanks,
Phil.

Sounds like the CSS is still cached, try CTRL+SHIFT+R in Firefox on the pages in question.

I don't think its caching. I've tried purging browser cache, touching conf/local.php and adding ?purge=true to the URL but the plugins still don't function. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Phil.

When the syntax is picked up, eg. you see test instead of <box>test</box>, then the plugin is installed and working correctly.  All that's is missing is the correct CSS and that's as chi said most likely a caching problem.

I appreciate what you're saying but I've tried everything on that FAQ (touch conf/local.php, adding purge=true to the url). I have firefox set to empty its cache on shutdown. It really don't think its a browser caching issue but I'm willing to try any other suggestions.

This is weird because your argument that the plugin code is being interpreted (rather than being displayed) is smart and true. For example, if I use <foobar> foobar test </foobar> then its true I see "<foobar> foobar test </foobar>" displayed on the page where as <box> box test </box> just displays the text "box test".

I'm not that experienced with running Apache. I've restarted the daemon to no effect but any other tests/checks I can run?

Specifically I'm trying the note & box plugins and I can't see any dependencies associated with those plugins that I don't have.

I'm a bit baffled.

Thanks,
Phil.

Have you tried to delete the contents of <dokuwiki>/data/cache?

Thank you Chi. That solved the problem. I am most grateful.

Do you think this is something that should be added to http://www.dokuwiki.org/faq:pluginproblems?

Phil.
