Hi,
I recently installed DokuWiki on an Ubuntu Server box. I successfully moved the conf, inc and data directories out of the web root. I can log in with the Superadmin account, I can also create groups and edit their permissions. I chose the "Closed Wiki" option because I want to very strictly limit the people who can read the wiki.
When I try to add a user however, I get this error message: "User addition failed"
The /home/user/conf directory is CHMOD'd to 774 as well as the users.auth.php file in that directory.
I must have done something wrong but I can't figure what.
Any help would be appreciated

Might be a bug. Please create a ticket at the bug tracker.

I also get the error. I have been using dokuwiki for a number of years with out this problem. I'm not sure when it started but I'm assuming it occurred after an upgrade at some point.

I found that I can edit users.auth.php, copy a line, modify it and exit. When I look in Admin, I find the new user there and I can change his or her password to a real one. Annoying, but workable.

We got the problem too, after upgrading an quite old version to 2010-11-07a.
The problem disappeared after deleting adduser.php from the bin directory. This file still had a file date of 16/07/2006 while all other files have been from 2011.
