I am a bit clueless about a problem with DokuWiki: We are using the software as knowledge base. Once we found the solution to a problem, the incident and the resolution are described on a Wiki page. Often enough the solution is related to some kind of software, a hotfix, bugfix, service pack or whatever they might call it. So far, we put the binary files on a separate file server and put a comment in the article that linked to that hotfix.
This week, two things happended: First off, the file server broke down. Second off, more funds were granted for the Dokuwiki server (a x86 machine with Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS by the way), so we could drastically increase the available disk space. This is why we decided to store the binaries at the same place where the related article is stored: in DokuWiki.
In order to make sure file size keeps somewhat moderate and the files can be used from every computer it was further decided that all files had to be archived by 7ZIP, as self-extracting archive.
The first problem encountered was that .EXE files are blocked by default. So I opened the file /var/www/conf/mime.local.conf and put the exceptions for exe in there. This part so far works, too.
The second problem encountered was that the max file size in Dokuwiki is limited to 2 MB. So I edited the file /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini, changing the line upload_max_filesize = 500M.
What now happens is that I can upload exe files. What also happens is that I can upload files bigger than 2 MB.
However, even though I put the max limit to 500 MB, even significantly smaller files (< 150 GB) cannot be uploaded. The upload starts as usual, it even finishes without error and says upload complete - but the file is just not there. Checking /var/www/dara/media and its subfolders, the file doesn't appear there either.
What is it that I don't see or where am I wrong?

Thanks a lot, that's the solution. I came across that post earlier and changed that setting already, but forgot to restart apache... so the settings never went active and I changed them back.
Either way... SOLVED! Thanks again.
