Subject: Undefined function curl_init() when trying to use a tag.  Trying to get Blog working
I am trying to get a blog up and running.  I know you must have tags also.  I intalled the latest version of the tags plugin, immediately after I saved the first tag I created I got the following error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in \plugins\tag\action.php.  Doing a little research on this error, I have been hearing a lot of people on the web say it's because you must have MySQL support.  Is this true?  Someone help me out here, please.

PHP can be installed with a large number of different (optional) extensions.  Curl is one of those extensions - and it is normally included and enabled - it provides the curl_init() function.  If your php installation doesn't have that extension you'll get the above error.  For more details see http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.curl.php.  To see what extensions you have, set up a page with

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

DokuWiki has its own HTTP client.  Try emailing, Esther, the plugin author and seeing if she will change from using curl to using DW own http client.  There is a google group for the plugin (search for "tag plugin").  I'd paste the link only google is being unresponsive.

You don't need MySQL. Chris' answer is correct: the current version of the action plugin component needs PHP with Curl extension. If you deactivate pinging in the plugin configuration, the error should disappear.

And yes, we should move from Curl to the DokuWiki http client for this.
