Hi all
I'm not much of a programmer/administrator but I've happily managed to set up a dokuwiki website and am very pleased with the result so far. The installation is located at the webroot of a server from some provider. Now I would like to set up a second installation for testing purposes, where I can test, if the latest dokuwiki-updates work allright and also make some major changes in the styling. Only when I'm sure everything works well I would like to apply those changes to the "real" website.
My first try was to simply download the current installation from /www and upload it to a subdirectory /www/testing
If I now point my browser to that subdirectory, it shows the wikipage at /www/testing, but as soon as I click any link it defaults back to the mainpage from /www. I'd probably need to change the base-url in the configuration, but I cannot really log-in as administrator that way as it defaults back as well when I try that...
Before I mess around more, wasting my time: does anyone have a recommended procedure for installing a side-version/test-installation for testing purposes? I've seen some posts and documentations about making dokuwiki-farms, but that seems intimidatingly complicated for a beginner like me... I'm really just scratching the basics in administrating/programming websites.
Thanks
