I recently upgraded to the 2006-11-06 version, and broke my spellchecking. I'm running PHP 5.2, IE 6, and WinXP. It has always been a struggle to get this working on Windows, but the current hack (suggested by user 'tomasz' on the
http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:spell_checker page) is just not acceptable. It works, but it leaves your system wide open to the most basic attacks.
I have added the path to the .exe in the aspell.php, as follows;
// path to your aspell binary
if(!defined('ASPELL_BIN')) define('ASPELL_BIN','C:\Progra~1\Aspell\bin\aspell.exe');
Aspell has not been uninstalled or moved. It only works when installed to that location. But, I just get a messagebox saying "Error: The spellchecker did not respond".
I tried installing it on another machine, but on that machine, if I don't open it up to abuse by any 12 yr old hacker, I get a more elaborate error message;
"An error occurred while trying to run the spell checker: Could not run Aspell 'C:\Progra~1\Aspell\bin\aspell.exe'".
I don't know why I'd get a different error message, but I do. What do I do now?
