Hello Myron & lupo49,
thank you for your answers and hints.
Now I tried with Firefox 4 on a Linux machine and also with the KDE Konqueror-Browser.
Firefox gives my a new tab and tries to render ttf-, the bm2- and even the dot-files.
Konqueror tells me:
Datei xy wurde als UTF-8 kodiert geöffnet, enthält aber ungültige Zeichen. Der Zugriff ist auf Nur-Lesen gesetzt worden, da ein Speichern den Inhalt der Datei zerstören könnte.
in English:
File xy was opened as utf-8, but contains non-valid code/symbol (?). Access is set to Read-only ...
In my mime.local.conf I tried both suggestions from you:
!bm2
ttf application/octet-stream (with ! and without !)
Even the
dot !application/msword
helps not to avoid the rendering instead of downloading.
Now I ask me (and You) if that could be a server-problem.
In my local environment I used a XAMPP on a Windows system and it was fine.
The server for web access is a Linux machine.
Just tried with Opera: I'm asked for all files to download or to open ...
Thanks for Your hints so far!

I get only the error and the access log-files. There are no errors when a ttf-file gets opened.
