Hi
This is a Q on the capabilities of dokuwiki, which I'm evaluating as a possible templating tool. I posted the following query some months back to a web devt listserv:
I'm looking to create user-friendly server-side page templates in PHP which would take user input (text, URLs, images) then create web pages in a specific format with one or more stylesheets. This is sort of what a CMS does but without the need for a database. [...] So I'm looking for a server-side tool which would allow me to build forms to output specific page types.
The best answer I got suggested using Dokuwiki's namespace templates feature, which I'll be investigating. What I'm after knowing, though, is if I can use dokuwiki to create a form with defined fields into which my colleagues could copy text, images and links. On Submit the field content would be copied into a template then a HTML and PDF file output to disk (example PDF attached) for import into a learning environment (Moodle). The content editor should also be able to preview the final output before submitting. I'm after a restrictive form rather than a page with all content editable, because my teaching colleagues are naive users and I don't want them to screw it up.
Can this be done in Dokuwiki? This is perhaps a niche and unsuitable use for it, in which case I'd think about rolling such a system from scratch in Codeigniter, but if DW could do it then that would save me a lot of coding time.
Fred
PS: as an edit, I've just seen that I posted this query months ago here but nobody replied. See
