Recently a PHP update happened, since then dokuwiki is totally broken an unusable. All pages are filled with lines like this:

Warning: preg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Compilation failed: unknown option bit(s) set at offset 0

I've googled this error and it started appearing about a year ago but very rarely. One of the problems is that your error message isn't sufficiently detailed, so that we don't know where it is occurring. The problem is very likely in a regular expression modifier, I suspect it has to do with utf-8 compatiblity. It could be coming from a plugin. So you could first try disabling your plugins and re-enabling them one by one.

But if you are using an outdated version of Dokuwiki, you should probably update to the the latest version and then install your plugins one at a time.

To be safe, you can either backup your wiki or copy your entire wiki to a new directory and do your experimenting in the new directory before making the changes permanent. The easiest way to upgrade is to use the upgrade plugin:
