Hmm, I don`t know really much about the different auth backends, but looking at the source code it seems you`re right, in case of forwardClearPass=1 no salt is used. The same applies for the pgsql backend. In case of the punBB auth backend a random salt is generated, and the ldap backend is another story ;-). Maybe this piece if information doesn`t necessarily need to be added to the passcrypt option?

There is no need to worry about the salt at all. When the uses encryption scheme needs a salt, then it's randomly created. If the used authentication backend does not use DokuWikis method to create an encrypted password (like when using forwardClearPass=1) or authenticating against an LDAP server then it's up to the backend to handle encryption.
